Chip-Based Verification

NFC ePassport Onboarding

Chip reading via phone NFC, ICAO 9303 compliant, BAC/PACE/EAC protocols, AA/PA cryptographic verification, tamper-evident biometric extraction, eIDAS 2.0 ready.

How it works

1
MRZ Scan
User scans the Machine Readable Zone on the passport data page. MRZ data is used to unlock the ePassport chip via Basic Access Control (BAC).
2
NFC Chip Connection
The RoxVerify SDK initiates an NFC session with the passport chip. PACE is used where supported, falling back to BAC for older documents.
3
Chip Data Extraction
Data Groups DG1 through DG15 are read — including the biographical data, chip-stored portrait, and fingerprint data where EAC is negotiated.
4
Cryptographic Verification
Active Authentication and Passive Authentication confirm the chip has not been cloned and that the data has not been tampered with since issuance.
5
Biometric & Liveness Match
The chip-extracted portrait is used for face match against the user's live selfie. iBeta PAD liveness confirms presence. eIDAS 2.0 assurance levels met.

Key capabilities

📡
NFC Chip Reading
Native iOS and Android NFC support. Works with any ICAO 9303-compliant biometric passport issued since 2006.
🔐
BAC/PACE/EAC Protocols
Full ICAO 9303 protocol stack — BAC, PACE, and EAC for chip access and Extended Access Control for fingerprint data.
✅
Cryptographic Verification
Active Authentication and Passive Authentication prevent chip cloning and data tampering. Country signing certificate verification via ICAO PKD.
👤
Chip-Quality Biometrics
Portrait extracted from the chip is superior quality to optical capture — used directly for 1:1 face match against the live selfie.
🌐
eIDAS 2.0 Ready
Chip-based verification meets eIDAS 2.0 High assurance level. Suitable for regulated EU onboarding that requires government-grade identity.
⚡
Fast & Seamless UX
Chip read completes in 3–8 seconds on modern NFC hardware. SDK handles all error recovery and protocol fallback automatically.
